We arrived in Lusaka, the capitol of Zambia, and were met my Edward Lange of Development and Education Community Project (DECOP) and his wife Valerie. After cramming our considerable luggage into the trunk of their car, we headed off in search of the local currency and new sim cards for our African cell phone. |
KENYA
 | Kenya: Pan Paper plans to expand its polluting operations
Earlier this year, in an attempt to discourage the use of plastic bags, the Kenyan government slapped a 120 per cent tax on plastic. While the tax may look like an environmentally friendly decision, it could result in severe impacts on the environment. One of the beneficiaries of the decision will be the partly government-owned Pan African Paper Mills. |

According to a Joint Investigation Report, made available to ERA, and a field investigation conducted by ERA, the incident occurred as a result of Shell's equipment failure. |

Durban - Shell chairman Ron Oxburgh had conceded that there were problems at the SA Petroleum Refinery (Sapref) in Durban and had agreed to come to see for himself, according to Desmond D' Sa, the chairman of the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance. |
